Nursing and Midwifery Program

This is a 36-Month-full-time Program.
- Candidates should be at least 16 years and not exceeding 45 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with four credits in English, Biology, and Physical Science or chemistry or physics plus one of the following science subjects: Mathematics, Agriculture; Geography; Home Economics, General Science.
- NOTE: If Mathematics is not a credit, it should at least be a strong pass of 7 points.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the program, the nursing and midwifery technician shall be able to:
- Practice independent, interdepends, dependent functions of the nursing midwifery technician within the prescribed scope of practice.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for own actions and omissions when providing nursing and midwifery care.
- Assume responsibility for own continuing professional development.
- Utilize effective communication skills when interacting with client/patient and members of the health care team to provide quality client/patient care.
- Provide comprehensive evidence based nursing and communities using and midwifery management process.
- Utilize knowledge from biological, physical and behavior sciences as a basis for providing comprehensive and competent nursing and midwifery care in a variety of settings.
- Participating in advocating for resources and safe work environment required to provide patient care.

Clinical Medicine
Step into the world of healthcare with our Clinical Medicine program, designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to diagnose, treat, and manage medical conditions. Prepare to make a real difference in patient care and become a trusted healthcare professional.
This is a full-time 24-month Program.
- Candidates should be at least 17 years old and not exceeding 40 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with four credits including English and three from the following science subjects: Biology, Mathematics, Physical science: Chemistry or Physics
OBJECTIVES:
- To contribute towards a regular supply of healthy personnel for Health units within Malawi.
- To provide students with knowledge, skills and appropriate attitude towards caring for the sick.
- To expose students to appropriately varied clinical and community experience to enhance learning.
- To enable students personal and spiritual development.
- To male available materials and resources for learning.
- To promote awareness of the sacredness of life.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
By the end of two year program the graduate should be able to:
- Take precise medical history from patients/clients.
- Perform accurate physical examination.
- Diagnose commonly occurring diseases/conditions.
- Perform a range of basic clinical procedures which are within a Medical Assistant area of competency.
- Screen under five children for growth and development.
- Manage Nutrition related disorders.
- Provide relevant reproductive health services.
- Provide promotive, preventive and rehabilitative and follow up services to individual patient and community.
- Provide health service professionally.
- Supervise staff within his/her catchment area.
- Organize meeting in his /her facility.
- Collect, analyze, compile, report and use health management information system.
- Organize patients for DHMT’s outreach clinic.
- Conduct community diagnosis.
- Maintain a high standard of professional ethics and conduct.
- Apply principles of professional ethics and conduct in all aspects of professional life.
Pharmacy Program

This is a 24-Month-full-time Program.
- Candidates should be at least 17 years and not exceeding 45 years of age
- Candidates should have a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with a strong pass in English and Two credits in Science subjects, namely, Biology, Mathematics, and Physical Science or (as separate subjects; chemistry or physics)
OUTCOMES
By the end of the course the graduate should be able to:
- Compile medicine and medical supplies reports for the village clinics.
- Produce LMS report according to MHCLSOP guidelines.
- Receive pharmaceuticals according to laid down procedures.
- Store pharmaceuticals according to MHCLSOP storage guidelines.
- Document all pharmaceutical transactions.
- Dispense medicines.

Public Health
To produce Public Health Technicians who shall be able to apply knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes in prevention, control, elimination and eradication of diseases, as well as employ information communication technologies for managing health information systems relevant to public health programs.
First route: The candidate should have Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with four credits which include English and any two science subjects.
Second route : The candidate should have post-secondary qualifications obtained from recognized and accredited institution in the relevant area of study. Admission will depend on the admission committee’s review of transcript and consideration of courses done and accumulated credit hours.
Aim of the Programme
To produce Public Health Technicians who shall be able to apply knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes in prevention, control, elimination and eradication of diseases, as well as employ information communication technologies for managing health information systems relevant to public health programs.
Program Learning Outcomes
By the end of the Diploma program in public health, the learner will be able to:

- explain prevention, control and management of diseases of public health importance.
- describe relevant public health laws and institutions of public health importance.
- discharge his/ her duties effectively in an administrative capacity in a health organization.
- communicate strategies to prevent and control communicable and non-communicable diseases
- compare and contrast nutritional needs between rural and urban societies in Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa.
- explain water quality control at the community, local and global level
- explain the principles of management in the leadership in the health care
- demonstrate management of disaster and epidemics
