Introduction to St John's Institute for Health

St John’s Institute for Health (formerly called St John’s College of Nursing & Midwifery) is one of the eleven (11) Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) member training colleges operating in Malawi. The Institute was opened in 1963 by the Medical Missionary of Mary Sisters (MMM) and is the Health Training Arm of the Catholic Health Commission, under the proprietorship of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.

St. John’s Institute for Health (SJIFH) is a leading institution dedicated to advancing healthcare informatics, research, and innovation. Our mission is to bridge the gap between healthcare and technology, fostering collaboration among experts from diverse fields.

St. John’s Institute exists to promote the healing ministry of Jesus Christ through training of safe and competent health professionals who are empowered to serve their community holistically.

To be a center of excellence that is dynamic and progressive in developing human resources for health, while being inspired by Christian values.

Main Goal / Purpose

In line with the goal of Mzuzu Diocese, the purpose of St John’s Institute is to produce professional health care workers for comprehensive Christ’s healing ministry

Philosophy

The philosophy of St.  John’s Institute shall be compliant with Christian principles and particularly teaching of the Catholic Church regarding provision of health services.  Core values of the Institute are:

being a creation of God, every human being has inherent God given dignity, requiring acknowledgment through respect

this includes empathy, responsiveness to need and sensitivity
